About

McMenamins Mission Theater blends cinema, live music, and pub culture into a format that’s uniquely Portland. Located in the Northwest District, it operates as a hybrid venue where you can watch a film, catch a live show, and order food and drinks without ever leaving your seat.

The interior is built around a sloped, theater-style layout, but instead of traditional rows, you’ll find a mix of tables, couches, and chairs. This setup creates a more relaxed, social atmosphere than a standard theater—closer to a lounge than a silent screening room. Servers move through the space during events, taking orders and delivering food and drinks throughout the show.

The stage and screen share the same focal point, allowing the venue to transition between film screenings and live performances. Movies range from cult classics to newer releases, while live programming includes smaller touring acts, local musicians, and occasional comedy or special events. The sound system and acoustics are tuned to support both formats, making it a flexible but still cohesive experience.

As with most McMenamins properties, the bar and food menu are central to the identity. You’ll find a selection of house-brewed beers, cocktails, and pub-style food that makes it easy to settle in for a full evening rather than just a quick visit.

The crowd varies depending on the event—film nights tend to be quieter and more relaxed, while live shows bring a more engaged, music-focused audience. Regardless, the overall tone remains casual and welcoming, without the formality of a traditional theater or the intensity of a standing-room concert venue.
