Grammy-nominated vocalist Kavita Shah blends jazz, Brazilian rhythms, and global folk traditions into a vibrant, boundary-crossing live set. When Kavita Shah first visited her ancestral villages on the coast of Gujarat, in northwestern India, they felt strangely familiar — like she had been there before. The teal blue houses, the mangroves, and the guava trees reminded Shah of her travels throughout Latin America, Brazil and West Africa, with their equally vibrant colors and cultures. Shah is an award-winning vocalist, composer, researcher and polyglot who makes globally-minded music that is deeply engaged with the jazz tradition. Her winding path back to her ancestral homeland is embodied in the title of Kavita Shah’s forthcoming album, All Roads Lead to Home, due out in Fall 2026 on Folkalist Records.

Blonde Neon teams up with a stacked lineup for an all-out-80's benefit concert supporting the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition. You've seen the news. Watched the videos. Maybe witnessed in-person injustices targeting immigrant families in our own backyard. Blonde Neon asked "what can we do?" So we brought in our friends The Wanna Be-52’s, DEVOtees, and Decadent ‘80s to host a benefit concert that will donate 100% of proceeds to the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC). This grassroots Portland organization runs a 24/7 hotline, provides legal support, and mobilizes volunteers to defend immigrant families across Oregon.Music brings us together, and so does showing up for our Portland community. We are proud to support the people who enrich our city every day. Come for the music, stay for the community — and know that every ticket makes a difference.

worldclassmusic.live presentsGripper * KhanLive at the Alberta Abbey, May 20 and May 21doors 6:30pm / show 7:30pmhttps://www.gripperkhan.com/In a rare and remarkable collaboration, Alam Khan—son of the legendary Ali Akbar Khan—joins forces with one of South Africa’s most innovative guitarists, Derek Gripper. The two first met in 2025 over a cup of tea in Alam’s teaching room, a meeting that it led to a spontaneous trio recording with South African guitarist Guy Buttery. Alam went on to join Derek in concerts with his long-time collaborator, the great Malian kora virtuoso Ballaké Sissoko, and then in an intimate duo recording session in the hills of Berkeley.Alam and Derek focus on their respective immersions in deep classical traditions: Alam Khan brings a long apprenticeship under his father, mastering the infinite art of raga improvisation within the Indian classical tradition. Derek Gripper, originally trained in European classical and early string music, has spent years translating the complex language of the West African kora to the guitar. Through this long study of the 21-string harp, he developed a unique language of cyclical improvisation, breaking out of the bounds of composed music and using the polyrhythmic possibilities of classical guitar technique to re-imagine the beginnings of sound in string music, from harps and bows of the African continent.Together, Alam and Derek explore the heights of spontaneous creation, re-imagining great African songs and Indian melodies through the art of spontaneous improvisation.www.derekgripper.com | www.alamkhan.com

Alberta Abbey is a venue and arts center inside the old Mallory Christian Church, a big, atmospheric building with room for ambitious shows, community gatherings, and a little beautiful chaos.
The Alberta Rose Theatre has reemerged as one of Portland's sharpest rooms for acoustic music, art-house films, and live performance with a touch of old-showbiz glow.
Alberta Street Pub is an old-school watering hole with live music, a covered patio, and the kind of comfort food that plays well with a long night.
A former school gym turned event space within the Kennedy School complex, hosting concerts, performances, and large gatherings.
The High Water Mark packs in a covered heated patio, live music, organic vegan food, smoked meats, games, and free pool, which is a pretty convincing argument for staying put.
Turn! Turn! Turn! is a community-minded performance venue and tavern-restaurant, small enough to feel personal and scrappy enough to feel real.
The Wonder Ballroom is a beautifully restored 1914 hall with vaulted ceilings, a strong room feel, and the rare Portland perk of plenty of free parking.
